Hi Guys I was a amazing weekend our coaches Mariusz ,Peter and Lukas travelled 2 UK to take a part
(as a officials -ADCC IRELAND REPRESENTATIVES) in ADCC World Championchip in Nottingham
Mariusz was refering on second day semi-finals
( fighters like Kyra Gracie,Xandre Ribeiro ,Jao Asiss,Pablo Popovitch
):
Here some summary by Kid Peligro :
In my opinion the technical level and matches in 2011 ADCC were the best ever surpassing
even Brazil '03.Usually the final day of competition has warm non-exciting matches as fighters
are more cautious as they get near the finals and as the level of the competitors increases the
fights are more evenly matched. This was not true this year , while the level was super high even
in the first round, fighters were extremely aggressive and going for the "kill" all the way to the finals.
Division by division reviews and thoughts:
U 66KG
Robson Moura showed he is still one of the best despite losing to Mendes.
Cobrinha bested an in form Glover to reach the finals. Third place match pitted Glover v Moura.
Glover, who finally trained hard for a competition showed his true self by defeating the multiple
times World Champion Moura by guillotine. Afterwards Glover stated:
'This is the most important win of my career!' True and if he stays focused and maintains his
training regimen look for him to be in the finals if not Gold in 2013.
Mendes and 'Cobrinha' did their usual battle with Mendes coming out on top by (-1).
The match wasn't as exciting as their final in 2009 but it is a testament to the level of the 2
top fighters in their weight

U 77KG Garcia, Kron, Vieira and Clasans made the semis in one of the toughest categories ever. What a group.
Garcia v Kron was once again a barn burner with Garcia scoring first but getting stuck in the dangerous
Kron Guillotine and almost succumbing to it. After the match Marcelo stated in an interview that he almost passed out
. The mark of a true champion is to escape even certain defeat and Garcia showed it there.
Kron for his part is reaching form, he is extremely dangerous and is starting to believe in himself and his
opponents are taking notice. Look for him to be in the finals next ADCC. Calasans and Vieira semi was a barn
burner with Leo reversing the score at the last minute with a beautiful throw to taking the back that was true genius.
Garcia submitted Leo in the final, conquering his 4th title becoming the first and only competitors ever to hold 4 titles
in ADCC, a true star champion!
U 88KG
Rousimar 'Toquinho' Palhares, Rafael Lovato Jr, Pablo Popovich and Andre Galvao formed another formidable semifinal.
Palhares' performance to that point set fear in most opponents as he was moving through the competition sending
Avelan packing with a vicious heel hook. Palhares defeated Lovato in a good match with a toe-hold.
Galvao defeated Popovich avenging his 2007 loss and earning the 'priviledge' of going against the uber-dangerous Palhares.
While most opponent's feared Palhares, this was Galvao's day. He escaped some early vicious heel-hooks and went on to
score 9 points by taking the back and taking advantage of the position. Palhares came back strong but in the end his energy waned.
Galvao took the well deserved title. Galvao said: 'When I escaped the first two heel hooks Palhares eyes went real wide as if he couldn't
believe it and as the fight proceeded I could feel his energy diminiss!' Palhares had to shed a lot of weight for 3 days to stay
in this division and paid the price, he could not go in the absolute as his muscles were cramping.
In my opinion he should have competed in the division above.
He would still been a force and a favorite and would've done damage in the Absolute as well.

U 99KG
Dean Lister, Joao Assis, Xande Ribeiro and Rodolfo Vieira made the semi's.
What a group, a former Absolute Champion (Lister '03) and a two times
Champion and World Absolute Champion (Xande) along with the current World BJJ and
World Pro Absolute Champion (Rodolfo Vieira) along with the incredible Assis.
Lister submitted Vieira with a heel-hook to reach the finals.
Assis and Xande had a great battle until Xande attempted a takedown that missed as he slipped on the slippery mat,
Assis quickly countered and scored the winning points.
In the finals Lister submitted Assis with a toe-hold. Lister and I travelled together (along with many others) to Nottingham,
on the way to the event i commented with him that I wanted to see the Lister of '03. I stated that if he made the appearance
he would be holding gold in the end. Lister smiled and said: "I am going to go for some feet this event!"
What amazed me the most is that some of the competitors would engage Dean in a foot, ankle, knee, leg bars exchange.
It is akin to drinking poison! And in the end they all fell to his venom!

OVER 99KG Werdum, Magalhaes, Abreu and Rinaldi comprised the final four. Rinaldi was fighting on a weight above because of
teammate conflicts but was still a force losing to Vinny by 2 points while Werdum and Abreu
did their usual incredible battle with Werdum coming out on top.
The finals had Vinny and Werdum locking horns and even for most ot he 20 minutes
until Magalhaes scored a sweep from an 'omoplata' attack.
Werdum went after the deficit and locked an arm-lock on Vinny that lasted several seconds if not minutes.
Magalhaes fought off numerous attempts in the position and finally escaped as time ran out.
It was a gutty and amazing performance by Vinny. Werdum stated: "I tried pulling his arm in every direction,
but he was tough and he was also able to spin his arm around in the long sleeve rash guard.
What a fight, he deserves the title"
Ladies Under 60KG
The current Champion Luana Alzuguir and the former Champion Kyra Gracie along with Michelle Nicollini
and Hashi Takayo made the semi's. Kyra beat Takayo by points while Nicollini beat the current champion to reach the finals
. Kyra submitted Nicollini by 'omoplata' avenging her 2011 Worlds BJJ defeat and regain her title.
'I trained really hard' Kyra said, 'besides I had some pretty good coaching here on the sidelines!'
(Making a reference to Rickson and Renzo)
Ladies Over 60KG

Current BJJ World Absolute Champion Gabi Garcia, defending ADCC Champions Hannette Staack and
Penny Thomas joined Ida Hansson in the semis. Staack heel hooked Hansson to reach the finals while
Garcia submitted Penny to reach the finals. Garcia and Staack battled into overtime until time expired and
Garcia had a points win over the game Hannette. It was Garcia's dream come true as she cried profusely
and thanked teammates and coaches and friends for all the help.
She is truly the best women's competitor in the World in the last couple of years
Absolute Division
A stacked field started the 16 man absolute and one by one early favorites went down.
Assis fell to Victor Estima in a demonstration of great skills. Magalhaes lost to Murilo Santana
and Xande lost to Popovich. The semis pitted Santana v Galvao and Popovich v Ribeiro.
Popovich won a scoreless match by decision after the second overtime, while Galvao won by points.
Popovich and Galvao would be in their second match of the day. As they walked to the mat for the decisive match
Popovich's coach said to him: 'This is your revenge. This is your revenge'. Galvao told Jacare:
'I am going to take him down and submit him!' While most everyone was expecting a long drawn of battle with Pablo
keeping the match standing Galvao, who was inspired in this tournament had different ideas, he quickly took
Popovich down and attacked the foot with a toe-hold to get the submission in under 4 minutes
. Galvao was elated: 'I trained really hard for this one Kid,
I had been close twice and this time I wanted it all.' Now he will face Estima in 2013!
Superfight Renzo Gracie v Mario Sperry
The battle of legends went to two overtimes before Sperry was able to secure the points to take the title.
Both competitors showed they are still a force and could do damage in the main event.
Superfight Braulio Estime v Ronaldo Jacare

The main superfight was held on Saturday day 1 with Braulio Estima facing Ronaldo JAcare.
Brauliio had Jacare in his guard constantly attacking him and keeping him off balance.
In the overtime Jacare went for a takedown but couldn't control Braulio, then after a quick exhcange
Braulio got Jacare's back and secured the points for the victory. Jacare stated:
'Braulio deserves it, his guard is very dangerous and I was never confortable there." Braulio was super happy:
'This is the result of all the training and preparation that I had. It was distracting with the event being here in my backyard
, lots of friends calling asking for things but it's past now and I am the victor"
